Why being a translator?

After grade 12 and while trying to chose a university major, students usually face a difficulty in deciding what is suitable for them.
I have decided to be a translator, at first i was confused then day after day i fell in-love with this major.
What makes this major so special is that students take courses from different domains (legal translation, economic translation, medical translation, journalistic translation..) and this  helps them be more enlightened and learn an a huge amount of terms.
What i enjoyed the most during my four years of translation is a course called "Simultaneous" which is a challenging interpretation course by which we used to enter a cabinet and use a microphone and speakers to interpret a text that was recited to us by the teacher from another cabinet.

What are some future opportunities of a translator?

1- A translator can pursue his/her studies in translation and then teach at universities or start translating books, movies.. etc
2- A translator can pursue his/her studies after having a bachelor of translation and be an interpreter and then attend conferences or work at an embassy or with international organizations.
3- A translation can register at the translators syndicate and be a sworn translator and translate legal documents at his/her own office.

For me a translation is a very sophisticated profession and i would like to emphasize that translators cannot be substituted by machines because translation is not only about languages, its also about creativity, skills and cleverness.

  1. I'll tell you Farah that translation is very important in our societies, even in other countries.I want to tell you that my parents, when I was in grade 12,I used to say that I don't like languages so I'LL not succeed in future being a translator. But in reality I think that it is nice being a translator but with me it'll not work,,haha
